RE: Getting out of this MAC Stuff
Vista market share grew much faster than MacIntel OS and MacIntel OS share share is only 6.51% compared to Vista's 20.45%.
OS market share
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and confine man in the bonds of Hell. (St. Augustine)
Most certainly, St. Augustine included the black arts of statistics in his comdenation of mathematicians.
Using the same source as 8.1 Van, one can also see that, for the first time in memory, perhaps even in recorded history, Windows OS market share has fallen below 90%. One of these numbers would have everyone in Redmond smiling, while the other would have the opposite effect.

wow tom, and i thought i hated math, guess your taking it to a whole new level :-)
RE: Getting out of this MAC Stuff
I have given up on the Mac, the only thing I find good about it is that the operating system is pretty stable - but so is XP.
But I'm trying to retrieve the information I have saved in the Address Book and can't figure out how to export in a CSV (international standard) format. Any suggestion, other than re-inter everything in Outlook ?
Never heard of anyone giving up a MAC...
really, i know 1 in the last week and 3-4 in the last year, macs are not the greatest thing to touch the earth, when you need to do more then basic computing, and some people buy computers to play games on top of other things, ps3 is not a requirement when buying a pc,
and i have never seen a mac in a business environment period, other then graphics departments, or an individual mac fanatic. NEVER in the server room
RE: I’d like your help to select a desktop PC
I bought a Micron Desktop 5 years ago and it still has the fastest processor you can get now. Has 4 GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive and a 16 speed dual layer DVD drive and a 264mb video card and 19 in. monitor. And the best part is no problems at all. Cost a lot but well worth it.
um processors haven't changed in 5 years? yea sorry to break it to you, processors change monthly, you do not have the fastest processor on the market, nor the highest video card even close
RE: Getting out of this MAC Stuff
Some people just can't drive a Caddy.:) I'd be happy to help you with any of your problems. There's nothing I can't do with my Mac that can be done on a Windows machine. As said above, Firefox or Safari should access all websites with no problem if your Prefs are set right.
really i could name about 50 games for a start.... not even mentioning the business side of the world :R
RE: Bank of America - RANT
Don't Blame BOA, they are just reacting to what they percieve as a bad credit risk. They, and all other banking institutions, go by what the consumer credit reporting agencies say.
You should probably read the fine print on the transfer agreement. In all liklihood there is an escape clause should there be a change in creditworthiness as rated by Experian, TransUnion, or Equifax.
If your wife has been carrying a balance for some time, and/or has balances on several cards, she has likely been rated a bad risk by one or more of these agencies, even if she has been paying on time. It would be worse if she wasn't. The more cards she has, the riskier she looks. If she has access to any accounts with your name on them, your credit rating has probably been damaged too. You, and she, have a long trek ahead.
We use credit cards freely. We have a total of three of three different types. We pay them off as soon as the invoice becomes available. From time to time, I even go online and pay them off before a payment is due if I expect to be moving around a lot during the invoice period. We also track all of our spending to the penny on Quicken which we update daily.
If you don't blame BOA and the other credit card companies then who else is to blame? People apply for, are inundated with offers of, and are constantly barraged with media advertising credit cards. People use them, carry balances on them, and have a reasonable expectation they will adhere to some form of reasonable "fair play"
A very little research will show documented abuse of the consumer by credit card issuers and it is now a subject of investigation in Congress. There are documented cases of terms being changed to the disfavor of the card holder when their credit status changes. That is to be expected when poor credit occurs but they also reserve the right to change the terms upward even when the credit situation improves! The terms simply note when there is a significant change.
Many card issuers have been caught pyramiding cards to poor credit individuals. They issue low limit cards, wait until the limit is exceeded or a payment is made late, impose usurious fees, and then raise the rate. They then issue another card to the same person and restart the entire cycle. Again, documented cases where the same issuer gave as many as seven low limit cards to the same user with out ever raising the rate on the original card and kept collecting over limit fees.
We would all be naive to think the card issuers are not striving to in debt as many people as possible for as long a period of time as possible. Even now when they are making noises of an impending credit card crisis, I see unprecedented solicitation. Last week, in one day, I received pre-printed checks by mail offering the ability to cash them for well over $100,000 dollars at a low teaser rate. Would no one guess this is not corresponding to the current economic crisis suffered by many and the coming of the Holidays? The funny thing is, I have not heard of any instances where the financial institutions have FORCED anyone to use credit cards or borrow money. The only ones that can be blamed for misusing credit are the ones who are misusing the credit. Just because someone offers you a chance to commit credit suicide, doesn't mean you have to do it. LOL.
um pretty much the people who rack up their credit debt. man, people just hate putting blame on themselves, always someone else fault. Its the reason the economy is the way it is.
its no one's fault but your own for bad credit debt.
RE: Smartphone?? Blackberry??
Just an FYI...my bro just changed out 4 BlackBerry Curves for 4 iPhones. He said he NEVER would get an iPhone until I let him play around with mine. He was indeed a "Crack Berry" user for life but now is so enthralled with the iPhone that he has a new addiction: iPhone Applications.
Since these are 3G and have GPS, many hundreds of free apps have been written specifically for GPS functions, including real-time driving directions, location services, etc. Perfect for the on-the-go RVer. Tethering can also be done by installing an app on the iPhone, and you get broadband speed!
Anyway, I'm geeked on the iPhone and couldn't get by without it now. It's an incredible little computer. I guess that's why they call it the "Jesus Phone"!
iphone, doesn't push email or sync anything with your desktop, completely worthless for real time business use
From Apple's iPhone enterprise site:
With iPhone 2.0 software, iPhone does even more for your enterprise. It supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, delivering push email, calendar, and contacts. And it gives mobile users secure access to corporate resources with Cisco IPSec VPN and wireless network services with WPA2 Enterprise and 802.1X authentication.
Tom
i stand corrected, must be a new feature
RE: Big Camera Deals Is A Fraud
if you were in New York and knew exactly what you were buying, then i would go for it, when i bought my slr, i went looking online in brooklyn stores, way way way to much gray market crap, simply not worth it, i bought everything through newegg and amazon. adorma, camera cetra. simply not worth ,
even if they ship what they say, alot of times its different/ wrong, not worth the hassle

RE: Smartphone?? Blackberry??
blackberry is more aimed for business users, as it links up our email servers for almost instant email arrival, all syncs with calender and phone book, and is a good internet brower as well, can be tethered for internet access. requires a data plan for almost all features, no idea what smart phones do
RE: Stupid Question - Manual Locking Hubs - 4WD
And I think your comments about auto hubs apply to older models, not the newer electronic shift on the fly models.I don't think auto/manual hubs on the Ford trucks are electronic in operation. At least they weren't last time I worked on one. In automatic mode, they use a mechanical cam system that uses the drive axle's rotation relative to the stationary wheel hub to drive a sprag gear towards the hub's inner splines. When the sprag contacts the hub, you get a connection and power transfer. That's why they do not engage immediately as some think, and why they don't stay engaged if you change direction. Some of the older ones didn't work at all in reverse.
Locking them in manually pushes a solid plate down in over the axle splines that meshes with the hub's splines. This effectively locks the hub to the axle shaft, and eliminates all of the above. Ford provides this feature as a value-added benefit to people who need it.
For 99% of the people who buy 4wd (and don't need it) auto hubs are plenty good enough and they may never tell the difference. For the rest of us, it's unacceptable.
And that electronic switch on your dash that kicks you in and out of 4wd is a completely separate system. All that is doing is engaging and disengaging the transfer case. The hubs remain mechanically operated.
Of course, I've focused in on what I know about the Ford trucks with the auto/manual hubs. There are all different kinds of systems out there and some DO use electronic and/or vacuum solenoids to engage the front hubs. These systems have their own strengths and weaknesses and are not addressed in this thread.
I agree completely, just didn't want to type all that. :-)
RE: Stupid Question - Manual Locking Hubs - 4WD
If you rely on the auto hubs, your front axle engagement is iffy at best. They are meant for the occasional "get you moving" 4x4 action, rather than down-and-dirty real off roading.
A couple things to know about the automatic hub function.
It can take up to 10 feet of forward motion to engage themThey may not work in reverse at all (depends on design)If they do work in reverse, it can take up to 20 feet of reverse motion to engage themIf you are rocking the truck, going from forward to reverse, the front axle will repeatedly disengage every time you change direction, then SLAM into engagementIf the haven't automatically locked, and the rear tires slip, they will SLAM into engagement and often fail if this happens
I appreciate your comment about "down and dirty real off roading" and the possible need for manual locking hubs. But not 1 in a hundred 4x4 trucks ever see down and dirty off roading.
And I think your comments about auto hubs apply to older models, not the newer electronic shift on the fly models. I know both my '04 and my '07 had none of those problems. I could be sitting on a muddy slope and try to start and the rear wheels will slip. I turn the switch to 4x4 and the fronts will engage immediately and I will start moving. No delay, no slam, no jerk, no 10 foot forward roll. Reverse would do the same. Engagement is prevented if moving more than 3 mph or so.
his comments are completely correct for 90-94 ford explorer's with the full auto only hubs. im guess what you considered a true off roader. the ford when going up hills in snow (extremely high grades 45% +) when in 4x4 high/low and got stuck and those wheels stop and this truck rolls even a half foot back, the front end disengages and your effectively back in 1 wheel drive, at this point you better pray you got the truck to move forward a foot, which usually wasn't possible, which required a roll down to a good point. and switching between drive and reverse took a good 3 feet to engage 4x4 in either direction
truck was fitted with manual hubs and locker in the rear
my 96 also had auto lock hubs, it never saw the same duty as the 91, but it also had the delay for locking, those tires needed to at least roll a half of foot before they would engage, and it would SLAM hard if under high torque on concert in low range chained down(pulling trees).
i have no experience with newer then 96 ford locks but, i will say that if there is an auto/manual lock switch, which i have seen, i would have to say the problem is still there, and is still the ramp engagement system. otherwise why else would they have it, i think its a great option
you would never see it in muddy grass, you have no traction to feel the engagement
but to each their own, this is only what i personally have experienced
RE: Sony LCD TV's
contrast ratio has absolutely no bearing on jerykyness, that would fall under refresh rates.
i recently bought the 37" xbr series sony, top of the line model sony makes, prolly close to 300 bucks higher then the top of line samsung(currently the 2 best rated lcd tv's). i will never buy a samung as my last one only lasted 5 years(tube) and 2 other friends have discolor and sound problems
picture is un freaking believable on blue ray, PS3,Xbox360, makes me want to throw out my dvd player which i just bought (oppo 981-HD),BUT
if you want to watch basic cable/non hd Dish.
There is "0" difference, everyone i talked to confirmed it, and its almost indistinguishable to my eye between the "l" and xbr series, the l being the cheapest line sold on regular cables programs, my mother will soon receive the 720p version, prolly same size for half of what i paid
i got the xbr for for ps3 blue ray, which use the 1080p exclusive, and my dvd player which upscales to that res as well.
it makes a difference, people are blown away at quality, you can be an inch from the screen and not see pixel's amazing
only thing i would say is get the 120hz, if you can afford it, i do se some jerkyness from time to time
RE: 08 chevy 6.0L coolant temp sensor
take your modification back, you pretty much bought a resistor, an expensive one that at,
your tricking the iat into thinking its colder then it actually is and riching the mixture, but the one thing they don't tell you, is 3 seconds after the 02 sensor see's the mixture being wrong, it re adjusts and anyway and stops using the iat for monitoring,
these things are a scam, that usually throw engine lights.
people have tried them 0 change
RE: Helping out DD's BF? Good or bad idea? LONG
Money is always tight and if you're fortunate enough to be able to help someone out that's a blessing for both of you. Yes, write off the loans - that way when he repays you it will be a pleasant surprise rather than getting bitter waiting for it if he can't or won't. A six year age difference isn't that much - I'm seven years older than my DH and know many people who are either older or younger than their spouses. Don't worry about being taken! Your daughter will receive a powerful lesson about believing in people and giving from your actions, and if she's as serious about this guy as you think she will be grateful to you for your graciousness and acceptance of him. I admire someone who can give like that.
at their age its a massive difference then when older
RE: Helping out DD's BF? Good or bad idea? LONG
sounds like a loser, any guy who is 25 and dates a 19 year old has problems to begin with.
he won't turn around sorry, just how it is
RE: Solenoid and Bosch relay - electrical help (again)
that wiring is wrong
disconnect 86 and the solenoid wiring, it did what you said, but thats a bad design
i can't help you much from here, someone who owns this rig may be able to tell you the wiring, but you need a switched source, currently what you have is wrong, you should not be using the override switch to get the steps in
how do the steps go out? when you open the door? shut down the rv?
RE: Jensen Radio/CD IN Dash Player Display Turn Off??
We have the same unit in our Class C Freelander. The display is pretty bright at night. Of course if you need a night light in the living room area it works fine for that.
The problem I have is that the radio/CD player is wired to the coach batteries. When you disconnect the coach batteries, using the switch on the monitor panel, the radio stops and you need to reset the time.
There must be a way to get power from the Ford's battery and still maintain correct time.
Ron
there is, 2 wires for a radio one memory, one ignition connect the one for memory(constant 12) to the ford battery, problem gone
RE: Solenoid and Bosch relay - electrical help (again)
i don't have steps, or i may be of more use, is this step on a rocker?
87a may be used to reverse polarity and send the step in reverse?
just completely a guess, not really sure what activates the steps, all i have are the real fancy manually operated rusted ones.
